Bundu Khan Restaurant

Al-Hajj Bundu Khan's is one of the oldest restaurants in Karachi. If someone visits Karachi and don't eat at Bundoo Khan then his visit is incomplete. Now it has more than 5 outlets within Karachi and one outtlet in Lahore Paistan.Following are list of Bar-B-Q items available here.1) Chicken Boti 2) Bihari Boti 3) Chicken lever 4) Chicken Sangdana 5) Mutton Boti Plate 6) Chicken Kabab 7) Mutton Kabab 8) Chicken Tikka 9) Halwa Suji 10) Paratha Behari Kabab & Seekh Kabab with Bundoo Khan's Paratha is my favourite. Not very busy. Made the mistake of pouring my bottled water into one of their glasses so I could drink, and boy did I ever get sick that night. Word to live by in Karachi:When dining out, ALWAYS drink water directly from your bottle.

Beach Luxury Hotel

There's no beach (just some mud with smelly sewerage), luxury would be an overstatement but at $100 / £50 per night with breakfast overall it's good value. Expect to pay £4 / $8 from the airport if the driver doesn't try to rip you off (like all my drivers tried to). 30 years ago it would have been a grand place. Trouble is that not much has been updated since. ... more [+] Cleanliness is not good by European standards. If you can accept all that, rooms are very large with water view over a palm lined pleasant garden with pool. (Rubbish dumps and grime in the other direction if you get a corner room. Aircon, fan, fridge and shower all worked well and the bed was clean and comfortable. The TV appeared to have lots of channels but had such poor reception was unwatchable - and theer was no remote control. Free WiFi didn't work very well, but was much better than no WiFi. I didn't use the gym. There's not much else to do on site or nearby. Staff were

Bhambore Karachi

At about 64 kms (38 miles) from Karachi on the right side of the Highway is the famous historic site of Bhambore, assumed to be the remains of the town of Deebal, where a young general at 17 viz. Mohammad Bin Qasim had landed from Baghdad in 711 AD to conquer Sindh after defeating the local ruler Raja Dahir. The site has a small museum, remains of an old mosque amongst other archeological relics, and green lawns where visitors tend to relax and play cricket. The balls seem to get lost in semi-desert plantation.A mud track to South leads to a hill from where one can have magnificient view of the Arabian Sea and mangroves in the distance. In 711 A.D., the sea must have been very near to allow Qasim and his army to land. History books, Bhanbore is referred as Dabul, where Mohd. Bin Qasim, a 17 year old Arab General, landed to free Arab traders who were being held hostage at the small fort on this sight. The city was attacked using a device called "Manjaneek", a cat

Mazar-e-Quaid

The mausoleum of Mohammad Ali Jinnah (Dec 25 1876- Sep 11 1948) was build several years after his death, and is centrally located in the city of Karachi on top of a small hill. Before the advent of modernization (construction of high rises), the Mazar could have been seen from anywhere in Karachi. The Mazar is surrounded by trees, and a garden laid in the format of Islamic art, with fountains all around it. You have to climb several steps to reach the top (shoes have to be removed before ascending), and the tomb is inside the Mazar. The actual grave is several meters below the marble tomb. After every 20 minutes there is a ceremonial position shift of the honor guard, and every 4 hours changing of the guard. This is a must see if you are into military formalities. There are also graves of Jinnah’s sister, Fatima Jinnah as well as first prime minister Liaqat Ali Khan (who was assassinated) and his wife, along with other dignitaries linked to the freedom movement. In addition

Chinese Embassy in Karachi

If you need to visit the Chinese Embassy to get a VISA in Karachi, be sure to not be intimidated by the crowd outside, or bother waiting in line (or you will never get in). The Embassy is open 9-12 Mon, Wed, Friday, and takes 2 days to process. Just walk up to the door, knock, and when it opens flash your (non-Pakistani) passport to get in. It's rude, but unfortunately necessaryThere is also a Chinese Embassy in Islamabad.

Local Transport

When visiting Karachi travel in a rickshaw. Its a fun ride and is least expensive. Local Bus Service and Old Taxi Service (Yellow Cab / Black Cab) is not quite satisfactory in Karachi because they are non airconditioned, not metered or having fast meters. So Visitors are advised to use following air conditioned CAB services for moving from Air Port to Hotel or from Hotel to any specific location. At Karachi Airport you can find various booths of these Taxi Service providers.Fare is Rs. 15/ km. You may hire for the whole day for about Rs. 1500 / for 7 hours or 100 kms.METRO CAB Tel. Boating Karachi

Pakistan with a vast coastiline facing the Arabian sea provides ample opportunity for deep sea fishing and other water sports. However unfortunately little effort has been delled to promote this sport and other activities. However there are fishing/sports enthusiasts who have put in a lot of effort in developing this activity (see attached/linked article below) and taking it to the next step. This sport is still in its infancy but developing fast. There are several boat clubs that offers boating and other water sports activities. Although for most of them you require a membership, but if you have the right connection you can enjoy some good sailing on the open ocean or in and around the creeks.

Park Tower Karachi

Great place to go shopping, lots of women's clothing, book stores, and music stores. The food court here is pretty good with lot of variety.Park towers is the only "mall" in Karachi. It has lots of shops (where it is understood you don't bargain). It has a huge McDonald's. It used to have a TGI Friday's as well, but it closed. It has a pretty decent food court. There's also an arcade and a kiddie ride place. It is the only big shopping place that is open on Sunday's (till 10 PM, I think). On Sunday's it's "Families Only" , meaning you can only enter if you have kids or females in your group. Guys who come alone or in groups will be turned away. Keep in mind, by Karachi standards, it's pricey. The Forum is another "mall" in Karachi besides the famous Park Towers. Apart from usual branded stuff, it also has local shops but some where actually you can bargain (only clothes). The only thing I like about The Forum

Clifton and Sea View

Karachi Port Trust has build the world's second larges Fountain in the sea in front of Clifton Beach. This fountain shoots up sea water over 600 feet. The whole fountain is lit with mega white lights. It is visible throughout the sea shore on Clifton Beach and Sea View. Fountain gives a magnificent view in night.

Pearl Continental Hotel

Expensive 5 star luxury hotel with large chandeliers in the huge lobby and lots of staff everywhere helping you with whatever you might need. There was even an orchestra playing just for us when we arrived the front desk staff told us... The hotel is part of the very exclusive hotel chain "Leading hotels of the world". Great place if you want to experience the luxury and service level you rarely find in most western countries. As Pakistan is a somewhat unstable country I suppose the security was tight around the hotel but it was very discreet and not intrusive.Hotel facilities and food are excellant. Other facilities includeds A gym, Pool, Table tennis, Sauna. But the gym timings are separate for gents and ladies, so the guests has to keep to the relevant timings.

Zainab Market

Zainab Market is situated in the heart of City (Saddar) at the end of Zaibunnisa Street near Hotel Avari Tower. It is also at walking distance from other reknown hotels like PC, Sheraton & Marriot. Nearest markets are Zaibunnisa Street, Bohri Bazar Saddar. So it is a place for complete family shopping. Shop keepers keep latest variety of stuff according to fashion.Men's wear shops are on the ground floor.Women's wear shops are in the basement 1-You can buy latest variety of Jeans, Shirts, T-Shirts for both men/women. 2-It is also good place for shopping interior decoration/gift items. One of my foriegner friend liked embroided Cushion covers there. 3-Leather jackets, wallets, purses & other Leather stuff is available too. Like many other markets in Karachi they don't offer fix price. So you have to bargain as much as you can.

Marriott Karachi

Fabulous hotel, about as expensive as any other major chain hotel, but that's about your best option in Karachi. If you are coming by local taxi (as I did since I took the train in) you must make sure you are aware that you'll have to walk from the back of the building to enter the hotel due to the security of the street the hotel sits on. Also, if you are planning on taking a taxi that isn't called by the hotel (cheaper and if you're independant, better) then you'll have to walk back to the same place you were dropped off. Here's a trick, when you are returning to the hotel, if you are not in the same cab or rickshaw that drove you to your destination, tell them you want to go to the Karachi Club and then give them directions to the back street (you'll see it). Some drivers won't take you to Marriott if they know you're going there. Marriott Hotel in Karachi is a recently renovated 5-star property. The beds are the most comfortable in

Avari Towers Karachi

All the international hotels in Karachi have to take especial care about security these days, but the Avari Towers is situated away from the road on a small hill so it is very well placed to protect its guests with heavy barriers, electronic explosive sniffer and rigorous car searches.I love Karachi and this hotel added to the joy we experienced. The upper floors offer the best views in Karachi.
